Ayurvedic Tips for Women’s Health: Live Inspired!

One of my Reiki students recently came up to me and asked, you are mentioning the word "Ayurveda" more lately, what the heck is that and how can it help me with my health goals?

What a great question!

Ayurveda (pronounced eye + oor + vay + duh) is a healthy-lifestyle system that people in India have used for more than 5,000 years.

Some consider it the "sister science" to traditional yoga. It emphasizes healthy lifestyle practices to prevent and treat dis-ease through breathwork, meditation, movement (including yoga postures), nutrition including herbs, and the care of our 5 senses- and that's just the basics.

Ayurvedic Elements in Nature: Earth, Water, Air, Space, and FIre

How is Ayurveda different from other health programs?

Ayurveda bases its theory on the existence of the five basic elements in Nature:

Space, Air, Fire, Water, and Earth.

Ayurveda acknowledges that our bodies and minds are a microcosm or small piece of the whole universe, the macrocosm.

Everything from your sleep/wake cycle, digestion, movement, and thought patterns are meant to thrive within a coherent rhythm. Unfortunately, our modern lifestyle of go-go-go mentally and sit-sit-sit physically is not conducive to our bodies' natural design.

Consequently, we are witnessing chronic inflammation soar in our culture and immune system functioning plummet.

For those who resonate with nature-based knowledge and the innate wisdom of their body, Ayurveda offers simple lifestyle practices that promote wholeness and healing. By aligning with the rhythms of nature, we can overcome highly inflammatory conditions and achieve root-level healing. This counter-cultural approach may require giving up addictive short-term habits, but it results in long-sustaining, life-giving ones.
